Going Green at Christmas time is another way to help the environment and leave a better, cleaner and safer world for our children. Below are some tips on how you can ‘go green’.

Make sure you turn off your Christmas lights when they are not being viewed;

Buy decorations that you can use year after year;

Ensure any lights bulbs in decorations use LEDs instead of the traditional bulbs. LED string lights last 10 times
longer and dramatically reduce electricity consumption;

Make sure that you turn off appliances, including Christmas tree lights and other electrical decorations at the
power point before going away over the Christmas holidays;

Have a go at making your own decorations from items you have around the house, for example,
Make your Own Bon Bons;

Use packaging that can be used again, for example gift bags are often better than paper;

Buy Christmas gifts that are locally produced;

Buy Christmas gifts that are recyclable;

Buy Christmas gifts that are energy efficient;

Give environmentally friendly Christmas gifts from toys that do not run on batteries to homemade presents;

Recycle Christmas cards that you receive in recyclable rubbish or better still, the ‘Cards 4 Planet Ark’ program;
