Moving a Website to another Domain Name
When we started out in the affiliate business we made up websites and put them either as sub domains or in folders on the domain. Over time the more successful ones were then moved to their own unique domain.
We had a website in a folder on domain A and decided to move it to its own domain B.
What took the most time was the research on the best way to do this and then fixing up the links and images on the copied website.
Here are the steps taken to move the website to a new location without losing any rankings:
1.Copied the website to its local spot on my computer. Had to spend time relinking images and links etc.
2.Loaded it up into the new location on the new domain and hosting account. (temporarily means identical websites on different domains)
3.Checked all pages and links and fixed up any problems.
4.Deleted the old website
5.Logged into hostagator and set up the 301 “redirect” so that any traffic going to the old folder is redirected to the new domain and location ( wasn’t that hard as hostgator has it set up for idiots)
6.Checked that the redirect works – all seems ok.
7.Submitted the new link to Google
8.Verified the link in google webmaster tools
9.Added a channel for it in our adsense account.
When you click on the old link it redirects to the new link. . Magic!
