Too often in our own family lives though, we do not set ourselves goals. Many families just move on from year to year without setting any clear direction of what it is they want to achieve. To achieve success in your life it is important to set a clear direction on where you are going.
When looking at goal setting, ensure you include personal goals, financial goals, business goals, relationship goals and any other goal which you desire.
Start off by writing these goals down. Include the goal and the date you would like to accomplish it. Once you have worked through this process, assess which goals are your top goals in each area of your life.
It is important to look at the purpose behind each goal. For example, you may set a goal to be rich or wealthy and hopefully you have included a dollar figure for this. While this is a good goal, it is the purpose behind the goal that will assist and drive you towards achieving the goal. Your purpose may be to live a fulfilling life whereby you have financial freedom, time to spend with your family and the choice of whether you work or not.
You will need to take a number of different actions towards achieving each goal. Write down on paper in order the list of actions you will need to take to achieve your goal. Set a realistic date to complete the action and then review your list on at least a monthly basis.
Set your goals now, not tomorrow, not next week or on New Years Eve, but now!
It is much easier to focus on the actions necessary to achieve a goal if you are reminded each day of the goal itself and the purpose for each goal. Write them on cards and stick them up around your house so that you are reminded every day and the goal becomes part of your subconscious.
It is vital to stay focussed on your goals and make yourself find the time each day to work on your goals and the actions required.
If you do not achieve one of your goals in the time you have allocated, just change the date. Re-focus on the actions required and keep moving forward.
Finally, enjoy setting out after your goals and going after them and as Henry Ford said “If you think you can or you think you can’t, you are probably right”.
